Purba Medinipur district or East Midnapore district is the southernmost district of Burdwan division. The headquarters is located at Tamluk. It was formed on January 1, 2002 after the partition of Midnapore into Purba Medinipur and Paschim Medinipur which the northern and western border of it. The state of Odisha is at the south-west border whereas the Bay of Bengal in the south the Hooghly River and South 24 Parganas district to the east and Howrah district to the north-east. This district houses most of the beautiful sea beaches in the state, hence, if you are a beach person then this is the place for you. Also, the religious temples add to the cultural aspect of the place hence, trip to this place can be a summation of the nature s made beaches and also to the archaeological wonder -temples.
Shankarpur, an almost virgin beach, is a recent discovery. It is considered to be the twin of Digha, around 10 km from it. It offers nearly all the pleasures of a private beach. This beach is cupped with casuarina plantations and has a fishing harbour.

It is popular amongst tourists for a short weekend trip. Digha has a low gradient with a shallow sand beach with gentle waves, that extends 7 kms in length.
Haldia is situated at a distance of 94 km from Kolkata and is a major seaport and industrial belt. Haldia is being developed as a major trade port for Kolkata, intended mainly for bulk cargoes. Hotels are available for business as well as leisure travel.
The Muktidham Temple is owned by Vivekananda Mission Ashram . This temple complex consists of the main temple of goddess Kali along with idol of Radha-Krishna, Hanumanji and at the foot of goddess Kali, there are pictures of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Saradamani and Swami Vivekananda. Opposite to the main temple, there is the Lord Shiva temple. The temple is surrounded by a well-maintained flower garden, lawns, vegetable grounds etc. The entrance gate of the temple is build in a South Indian style of architecture. The gate and the main temple are built in white marble stone. The foundation stone was laid on Buddha Purnima in 1984 and inaugurated on 18h February 1999, on the birthday of Sri Ramkrishna Paramhansa.
