Located in the Purba (East) Medinipur District of the state of West Bengal, Shankarpur is a beach destination along the Digha-Contai Road which is fast gaining popularity. It is at about 185 km from the capital city Kolkata, and about 14 km from the famous beach town Digha.
This beach is covered with casuarina plantations and is also a fishing harbour. Shankarpur developed as a sea resort, with hotels, tourist lodges and other facilities. By Air: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose international airport at Dum Dum in Kolkata is the nearest airport. From there, one can hire a cab or take a bus to reach Shankarpur.
By Train: Nearest rail station is Digha. There are local and express trains available from Howrah to Digaha. One can take a private cab from Digha station to reach Shankarpur.
By Road: Buses go to Shankarpur from Dharamtala/Esplanade bus stand, Kolkata. Shankarpur is near Digha and can be reached by taking any bus going to Digha.
One of the only tourist attractions of Shankarpur, the Shankarpur beach is breathtaking, in every sense of the term. Clean water, white sand and mildly blowing winds make the Shankarpur beach, not just a great tourist attraction, but also one of the most sought after beaches on the entire Eastern Coast.
